Busy, busy, busy!

(This was posted 8 months, 1 week, 4 days, 11 hours, 28 minutes's ago.)

I’ve been busy, busy, busy...

My son has not been well, lots of quotes to send and questions from friends and clients...

Not sure that I’m not a busy fool but the New Year is looking promising.

I swear to be back updating the blog, on a regular basis now – otherwise there was no point putting it here! Sounds like something I would say to a client...

So here is my thought for the day ‘when did you last look at your website?’ clearly I looked today...

Doodles for Google

(This was posted 8 months, 2 weeks, 3 days, 11 hours, 30 minutes's ago.)

Over the last few days the doodle on Google has been celebrating 40 years of Sesame Street.

I love Sesame Street, it’s characters – everything!

Today I looked and found yet another Sesame Street character, Elmo. This prompted me to look at what the Google doodles were all about.

OK, from what I can see there are two things to know here, there is the original doodler (Dennis Hwang) and then there is a cool competition for local schools (Doodle 4 Google).

I’m no expert on Schools but I think Google 4 Doodle is a great idea. It encourages creativity, teamwork and the prize is really cool – a day on Google for the winning design. What is most interesting for me is that I knew about Dennis Hwang but had no idea about this and wonder how many schools know about it?

So here is the challenge: everybody reading this that have children, know people that have children or that are involved with Schools need to tell the school about Doodle 4 Google.

For now however here is todays 'Doodle 4 Google' - enjoy!

Squeeze More Enquiries from your Website

(This was posted 8 months, 3 weeks, 4 days, 11 hours, 32 minutes's ago.)

Have you ever considered giving something away for free? Do you ever think that anybody actually gives anything away for free?

In association with another company we have been looking at doing just this, with the idea that what we are interested in is those that are interested in something that we do...

Sounds a little like double Dutch I know but think of it like this. We are interested in speaking to very small, start-up businesses; the problem is finding them and getting in front of them.

We are considering offering a ‘Free’ report of website development for small businesses. All we want to do is capture their details at the start of the process rather than at the point they are looking for a service provider.

We believe we have a great product to offer, by trying to get in front of a prospect as they are doing their research and giving them something of value we hope to be considered by that person when the day comes to get something done.

So why am I telling you our master plan? Well it’s not something new so we’ve not let the cat out of the bag or anything but is it something you could consider for your business? If you are a roofer could you offer roofing tips in order to find out details of people that are looking at roofing? If you are a wedding photographer could you offer some insight into getting the best from your wedding photographer on the day?

Just a thought...

The best Keywords...

(This was posted 8 months, 3 weeks, 6 days, 11 hours, 39 minutes's ago.)

As part of how I keep up with what is going in the world of design and development I am a member of several forums.

Today the chatter has been extremely interesting as it has been about stuff that I assumed everybody knew.

Keywords’ are part of what a search engine uses to understand a website page. The question in the forum today has been about how to research keywords.

Here are what we would or could use:

Google Adwords – Advanced Keyword Tool

The advanced tool will give you indicative monthly search volumes but is a little limited in how it works – the best thing is it’s another thing that is FREE from Google!

Keyword Spy

Keyword Spy can let you know what other websites are doing. I will tell you what keywords a website is promoting both organically and on a pay per click basis.

Wordtracker

Last but not least is Worktracker. Takes a little more getting used to but will score a page on given keywords as well as giving you keyword trends so you can have a balanced approach.

The reality is that good development, complimented by good content should work. Keep your content original (DON’T COPY) and the search engines will respect you!

If you need any more help – just shout!
